The contract cleaning department is significantly expanding its capacities with a robot cell. Fully automated and highly flexible, the system can be used to clean various parts, including very large ones.
Thomas Humpmayer, head of the contract cleaning department at Silberhorn Maschinenbau, is delighted. "His" new robot cell recently arrived. It now processes customer orders fully automatically – currently in a single shift, but a three-shift operation is planned from 2024.
Silberhorn bought back the impressive system with a footprint of around 8 by 11 metres from a customer and overhauled it from the ground up. "We are professionals," says Humpmayer, "and of course we know our systems inside out, which is why it is completely unproblematic for us to bring them up to date technically and visually so that they can be in use for us for many years to come and reliably meet the highest purity requirements."
The system is characterised by high flexibility. Its product carriers make it possible to fix both small and large components and feed them to the robot via a conveyor belt. At the transfer point, the robot, which is designed for wet rooms, picks up the product carriers and can either spray clean them in the cabin or clean them at high pressure with up to 800 bar. For stubborn soiling, there is also an immersion bath for pre-cleaning the parts. After cleaning, the parts are dried by blowing them off. A cabin for vacuum drying is also available for the highest drying requirements.
System was not the only investment in 2023
A total of 16 employees work in contract cleaning at Silberhorn - just a year ago there were only three. The machinery has also grown rapidly - from three cleaning systems and a vacuum dryer in 2022 to two robot cells, five chamber cleaning systems and the aforementioned vacuum dryer today.
"We are now extremely fast and incredibly flexible," reports Thomas Humpmayer proudly. "The three-shift operation in particular makes this possible." In this "round-the-clock area", four systems are used in combination: a REZ robot cell, the two Silberhorn MWS and the vacuum dryer. This ensures extremely short cycle times.
Customers are very satisfied, Humpmayer continues. There are many urgend jobs which, despite their spontaneity, can all be realised within one day. So it's no wonder that demand is increasing and that the contract cleaning department will expand again in 2024. A new robot system will replace an old one, and a Silberhorn MWS and a Multiline will be added.
