Sometimes a fresh perspective is what it takes to tackle new challenges. That’s exactly how the latest project at Kößler Technologie GmbH began: A student intern introduced new suppliers during research on cleaning systems – including Silberhorn Maschinenbau GmbH, previously unknown to the company. In the end, the decision was clear: the MWS 4130 chamber cleaning system met all the requirements and impressed with its flexibility, performance and potential for automated loading.
Precision and Cleanliness as the Benchmark
The task was demanding: a complete production line had to be set up for high-precision steel components used in electric vehicle transmissions. It includes several CNC machines, subsequent cleaning, and automation between the stations.
The components themselves are highly sensitive: complex geometries, corrosion-prone, and must remain free from impact marks. There are also strict requirements regarding dimensional accuracy and residual contamination. A grease-free surface was essential, as the parts are subsequently laser-welded – and grease is an absolute no-go. “Our standard is to deliver components ready for assembly,” explains Managing Director Sascha Kößler. “There’s no room for error.”
After thoroughly reviewing various technologies and providers, the company chose the MWS 4130 chamber cleaning system – the first “Silberhorn” in Kößler’s machine park.
Why the MWS 4130?
The MWS 4130 scores with flexibility, fast cycle times and excellent cleanliness. Currently, two of the three tanks are in use: one for cleaning, the other for rinsing and preserving the components against corrosion. “A clean and protected surface is a basic requirement for our customers. Expectations are high – and the MWS delivers,” says Kößler. Drying is done either with hot air or, optionally, in a separate vacuum dryer.
Automation also played a key role. A roller conveyor automatically loads and unloads the cleaning chamber with components. At the same time, it acts as a buffer, significantly easing the operator’s workload. In the long term, a robot will take over all manual handling tasks and serve as a fully automated link between the CNC machines and the Silberhorn MWS. “That’s our goal: speed, precision, and as little manual intervention as possible. That’s how we meet the required quantities in the expected quality,” explains Sascha Kößler.
Focus on Sustainability and Operator Comfort
Kößler Technologie GmbH is proud of its energy certifications – but they also come with responsibility. That’s why energy consumption is always a critical factor when investing in new equipment. The Silberhorn MWS 4130 met all expectations.
Sascha Kößler points out that “constantly heating and cooling the cleaning liquids consumes enormous amounts of energy.” With the MWS, components can be cleaned at low temperatures below 60 degrees without compromising cleanliness. “That saves electricity and means we don’t need to spend energy on cooling parts after cleaning.” The parts can be dried faster, packaged quicker, and are less likely to outgas in packaging.
The selected cleaning chemicals were also thoroughly tested. “Even the first trials at Silberhorn’s application centre showed that the chosen media were a perfect fit for our needs,” says Kößler. While he acknowledges that chemicals can’t be completely avoided, he insists that the cleaning fluids must be as environmentally friendly as possible.
Another benefit: the easy maintenance of the MWS. “The accessibility of the components is outstanding – I haven’t seen that in other systems,” praises Sascha Kößler.
Successful Project Launch with Perspective
As is common in the automotive industry, this new production line comes with long lead times. Only later will all machines run in full operation in three shifts. “Production volumes of one million parts per year are not unusual for us,” says Kößler.
In the meantime, the MWS 4130 has already been put through its paces. The managing director is enthusiastic about the system’s flexibility and performance.
Moving Forward Together
From the initial contact to the installation, the collaboration with Silberhorn ran smoothly, Kößler confirms: “Once the contract was signed, everything moved very quickly.”
With the MWS 4130, Kößler gained not only a powerful cleaning system but also a reliable partner. “We always keep an open mind and stay curious about new developments in the market,” says Sascha Kößler. “But when a manufacturer wins us over, we’re happy to work together long term. Continuity is extremely valuable – especially in maintenance. A team familiar with the systems is worth its weight in gold,” he concludes.
This project demonstrates that when technology, expertise and the willingness to embrace new ideas come together, the result is solutions that set standards – for today and for the future.
